Timothy Bradley, former super lightweight and welterweight champion, expressed that Terence Crawford has between 30 and 40% chance of winning to Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez if he dares to go up from welterweight to super middleweight to challenge the Mexican for his undisputed title.
In an interview with Fighthype, Bradley stated that Crawford has the skills to defeat Canelo Álvarez if they were both the same size, but believes that the difference in weight when jumping three categories will make a difference in the possible fight between undisputed champions.
“Now they are not the same size and that is where the difficulty comes. I think it’s bold to be great for Crawford because his skills surpass Canelo’s. It would be a 30% chance, a 40% chance because, again, that weight. I believe in my man Crawford. I think he is different. I’ve never seen anything like him in sports as long as I’ve been alive. I could say that, but that’s hard, that’s hard. “Crawford is a winner, Crawford is not going to come and lay down, and Crawford is definitely going to come out on the shield, there is no doubt, but Canelo has other guys that he can fry, that he needs to fry before Crawford has a chance,” he said.
“That’s hard. We know that Canelo can be surpassed in boxing, but the size difference is what’s scary in that fight. I think it will give him a lot more problems than (Jermell) Charlo, without a doubt, because of the mentality, and he would come to win. I just wonder if he can take Canelo’s punch, if he can stay away from Canelo’s punch and if he can absorb the punishment that he will receive and have to endure,” he noted.
It should be noted that Terence Crawford assured that he is willing to enter the ring with Canelo Álvarez at 168 pounds to try to win his third undisputed championship in what he considers would be the biggest fight in boxing. The challenge was initially rejected by the Mexican because they would not give him credit for doing it, but after leaving open the possibility that the duel could happen, now the man from Guadalajara expressed that Bud is not in his plans after beating Jermell Charlo.
For the possible duel, Crawford would have to gain 21 pounds, a situation that could put him at a disadvantage, but some experts in the sport believe that size will not be a problem because the undisputed welterweight champion has the necessary skill to be able to beat Canelo Álvarez. For now, Bud must fulfill his obligation to Errol Spence Jr. and have a rematch at the end of the year or the beginning of 2024, before thinking about the man from Guadalajara.
Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez, 33, He showed that he is still at the top and increased his legacy in the sport. The boxer from Guadalajara has a record of 60 wins (39 by knockout), two losses and two draws in his career.
For his part, Terence Crawford, 35, became the best pound for pound after winning the undisputed welterweight championship and being crowned the first undefeated monarch since the four belts were disputed. Bud, what He went down in history for being undisputed in two weight categories, now he has 40 victories, 31 of them by knockouts.
