Zelensky reviews operation of Western tanks as US prepares new aid package

The Ukrainian presidentVolodymyr Zelensky, visited the northeastern front and inspected Western tanks and armor, coinciding with the preparation in the United States of a new aid package whose announcement is expected soon and with which he tries to send the message to Russia that military assistance to Kiev will not give up.

Ukraine tries to make light of the fact that the US Congress excluded new aid to that country in the interim budget which he adopted on Saturday to keep the Government operational for 45 days, stating that the level of support from Washington has not weakened.

President Joe Biden’s Administration had requested other $24 billion dollars.

“The question is whether what happened in Congress last week is an isolated or systemic issue,” said Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitro Kuleba.

Bipartisan support for Ukraine

The Ukrainian ambassador to the United States, Oksana Markarova, stressed today in an interview with the Ukrinform agency that lAssistance to Ukraine still has support from both Republicans and Democrats in both chambers.

He stressed that, although it is regrettable that there cannot be new aid for a month and a half, the most important thing is that it is in the 2024 general budget, which is already being negotiated with the parties looking towards next year’s presidential elections.

But since Saturday, both in Kiev and in other European capitals, senior officials and the media have expressed their concern about what they consider a “gift” to the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, just when the Kremlin is trying to show with its propaganda that there is “fatigue” in the US and the West in their military support for Ukraine.

A new aid package this week?

White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierresaid the day before in response that “soon” there will be another aid package for Ukraine as “a sign of our continued support for the brave Ukrainians”.

“And that is our message. If (Mr Putin) thinks he can exhaust us, we believe he is wrong,” he emphasized.

According to the American media Politico, the aid will be announced this week.

In turn, Biden called his main allies on Tuesday – the leaders of the G7, the EU and NATO – to reassure them that the US is committed to helping Kiev militarily.

Support from the European Union

The American president plans, according to this source, to speak with the leaders of the G7 countries and other European allies,

The goal would be to ease concerns that Republican misgivings could give Putin a boost in his war plan heading into the fall and winter in Ukraine.

In any case, kyiv, which has the support of other partners such as the European Union (EU), Canada and the United Kingdomwill not stop fighting if new American aid stops arriving.

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) has already warned that now is not the time for the West to reduce or stop assisting Ukraine.

In an analysis, he stressed that the only thing this would cause would be a delay in the arrival of more war equipment to the front and therefore would hinder the Ukrainian strategy, as happened last year, when Western resistance to sending the modern weapons requested by kyiv delayed the first counteroffensive.

Ukraine will continue fighting

“No one should or will be able to ‘turn off’ our resilience, resistance, determination and courage on a programmed basis or as a result of an emergency. There is no ‘expiration date’, ‘end date’ or end point after which we will stop resisting and fighting, except one: our victory.”Zelensky said on Sunday.

The president traveled today to one of the hottest combat zones on the front, Kupiansk-Liman, in northeastern Ukraine, where he visited several brigades to learn about the situation on the battlefield and the needs of the soldiers.

In addition, he evaluated together with the tank unit of the 21st separate mechanized brigade, equipment transferred to the Ukrainian Army from the West, in particular Leopard 2 tanks and Swedish CV-90 infantry fighting vehicles.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said today that the Russian Armed Forces have “considerably weakened” Ukraine’s war potential by inflicting a large number of casualties and losses.

Precisely, he wanted to highlight the action of Russian forces in the Limán area, where hours later Zelensky appeared.
