What were the reasons why Sergio “Checo” Pérez withdrew from the Japanese Grand Prix twice?

In the early hours of this Sunday, September 24, the race of the Japanese Grand Prix the Mexican Sergio “Checo” Pérez had to retire twicebecause his car suffered multiple damages causing him to retire from the race and finish in the second to last position.

The first mishap that the Guadalajara driver suffered was on the first lap when he reported damage to the vehicle’s nose, which caused him to have to enter the pits to replace the part and try to make an epic comeback. When returning to the track, Pérez did not remove the Safety Car and passed some opponents, which caused a five-second penalty to be imposed.

Later in the race, the driver of the Red Bull team tried to overtake Kevin Magnussenteam pilot Hass, crashed into him and that caused him to have to go to the pits again. With his entry into the pits, the Mexican had to serve the penalty for violating the Safety Car before going out again to the competition.

On lap number 1, Sergio “Checo” Pérez contacted his team to report that the car was reporting multiple damages to the front, causing him to have to retire from the race. All fans of the team Red Bull They thought that the Mexican would not return to the race, but on lap 40 it was shown how he returned to the RB19 to take a couple of laps in his car before abandoning permanently.

Why did Checo Pérez return to the race if he no longer had a chance to win?

The driver from Guadalajara returned to his car to serve his five-second penalty and thus prevent it from being overturned for the next Formula 1 Grand Prix.
