Given its rarity, it led the house’s currency auction at the Long Beach Expo by reaching a record figure of $480,000. For Dustin Johnston, vice president of currency at Heritage Auctions ““Large denomination banknotes have always attracted the interest of collectors of all levels.”said

Previously, the maximum price they had offered for a ticket like this was $384,000 dollars, it was also one of $10,000 dollars from 1934. “The $10,000 is second only to the $100,000 gold certificate issued in 1934.and of the 18 specimens graded by PMG, this specimen is tied for the highest grade,” Johnston highlighted.

According to the Museum of American Finance website, $100,000 bills were only used to transfer funds between Federal Reserve banks and the $10,000 bills were the largest denomination ever circulated, while the $500 bill was discontinued in 1969, leaving the $100 bill as the highest publicly denominated bill.

In a statement from PMG he noted that So far there are four more $10,000 dollar bills that have qualified. In this regard, Johnston noted that this is “an absolute prize that will attract some of the attention in its new collection home,” he said.
