Giovani dos Santos’ career had a sad ending. Gio’s football excited many Mexican fans, especially for his first games with the FC Barcelona shirt. However, the end of Dos Santos’ career was quite dark, especially because of his retirement that went unnoticed.

The last official match that Giovani dos Santos played was with the team’s shirt. Eagles of America. That duel dates back to the month of April 2021 in a match in which the azulcrema team beat Tigres de la UANL 1-3.

Since then the Aztec has not played a game for points. Dos Santos ended his relationship with Club América in July 2021 and Since that date he has not been able to sign a contract with any other team. Under these circumstances, Gio was placed as Retired footballer from the renowned Transfermarkt portal.

What options did Dos Santos have before retirement?

Although Dos Santos left the América club at the age of 32 and with few expectations behind him, The Aztec was wanted by several clubs. The former FC Barcelona player did have options to stay active, but due to different factors he did not take the opportunities. Giovani could have played for Mazatlán of Liga MX, Municipal of Guatemala and even Emelec of the Ecuadorian league.

How did Giovani dos Santos do with América?

Giovani dos Santos was “rescued” in 2019 by the Águilas del América. The Mexican team decided to acquire him even though He left through the back door of the Los Angeles Galaxy. But the former FC Barcelona player could not take advantage of that opportunity.

“Gio” played 42 games with the azulcrema team’s shirt. The former FC Barcelona player was on the field for 2,210 minutes. However, his numbers were not encouraging at all. The Mexican only contributed 4 goals and conceded 1 assist.
