Lizzo, the renowned singer, sent a clear message of support to “plus-size black women” while receiving the Humanitarian Award from the Black Music Action Coalition at a ceremony held Thursday night. During the event, the artist was surrounded by twenty plus-size women, highlighting her commitment to inclusion and equality.
Although recently Lizzo has faced two separate lawsuits accusing her of allowing racial and sexual harassment on her tour., in his speech he did not make explicit reference to these cases. One of the lawsuits filed against Lizzo comes from a woman who claims to have been recruited to make costumes for the artist’s tour in 2023. In her complaint, she maintains that Lizzo’s plus-size dancers barely had room in the dressing rooms and were often mocked for part of the men on the stage crew, who were mostly white.
