Man who killed his wife with a nail gun to prison; he tried to commit suicide with several shots from the pneumatic pistol

HOUSTON – A man from the Cypress area, a part of the greater Houston area, pleaded guilty to beating his wife to death with a pneumatic nail gun Thursday in a Harris County court, authorities said.

Lam Ngoc Tran, 65, was accused of brutally killing his wife at a Cypress residence last year.

According to authorities, Tran murdered his wife using a pneumatic nail gun on January 10, 2022 inside a residence located in the Peralta Springs neighborhood in Cypress, a metropolitan area that is 15 miles northwest of the city center.

The victim identified as My Thai Dang, 49, was found dead inside the residence with injuries to different parts of her body. allegedly caused by the nail gun.

Investigators said that after he murdered his wife, Tran attempted suicide using the same nail gun. The man survived his injuries.

The scene was described by investigators as horrifying due to the amount of blood spilled. Officials said the couple had a history of domestic abuse, according to statements from relatives.

The victim had allegedly filed for divorce a few months ago and was scheduled to have a hearing to acquire a protective order against Tran the day she was murdered.

Tran was sentenced Thursday to 40 years in prison.
