Gerardo Torrado, former sports director of the Mexico team, revealed that Jaime Lozano was never among the plans to take over from Gerardo Martino as the Tri’s coach.
“That situation never crossed our minds. Although it is true that it could have been something natural because he was the coach who was closest toHe was the one with the highest level at that time in the structure, but no, while I was in the Mexican Football Federation the idea was always to start the process with ‘Tata’ (Gerardo Martino) and finish it with him,” he explained. Torrado in an interview with ESPN.
The former member of the Mexican Federation stressed that although both had good projects, they were coaches with different objectives.
“They had a good relationship and were able to work together in a very synchronized way, but no, the idea was clear.that we had two great coaches in two projects that went hand in hand but that were different and had different objectives”, added the former manager.
Torrado happy with Jimmy Lozano as coach of the Mexican team
Gerardo Torrado explained that he has a good friendship with Jimmy Lozano since they grew up together from their days in the America of Mexican soccer.
“If we go back to when we were children, we started our career as footballers in America together, he being a year older than me and from there we met and Although it is true that we did not have a very close friendship or relationship at that time, with the passage of time football found us and uniting in different teams, ”he said.
The former director affirms that Lozano is the ideal person for the position of coach at El Tri and that he wants to listen to others, something that is difficult on the bench of the Mexico team.
“Jaime Lozano is the right person at this time to lead the Mexican National Team, a young, Mexican coach with a lot of knowledge.with a great desire to leave a legacy in Mexican soccer, with desire and openness to listen to many people who often in those positions is complicated, “he said.
Lozano will debut as an official coach and not as an interim coach this Saturday, September 9 against Australia at 7:00 pm PDT at AT&T Stadium.
