The Mexican team will face two friendly matches (Australia and Uzbekistan) in the coming days without the most anticipated presence: the Colombian striker, a naturalized Mexican, Julian Quinones.
Bureaucratic obstacles stopped Jaime ‘Jimmy’ Lozano from summoning the 26-year-old striker, although he did incorporate him into training so that he could acclimatize to the level, demands and philosophy of El Tri.
Waiting for the letter that accredits it to FIFA to defend the shirt of the Mexican team, some media claimed that Quiñones failed his naturalization test and that for this reason the legal process was delayed.
“Julián Quiñones would not have satisfactorily passed his first attempt at the naturalization test,” was the information provided by Ricardo Murguía, from TNT Sports Mexico.
To everyone’s surprise, his own Julián Quiñones responded to the post published on the social network X (formerly Twitter) with an ironic gesture and denying the fact: a ‘dead laughing’ emoji was enough, neither more nor less.
Despite being born in Colombia, the striker for the Águilas del América quickly took root in the Aztec nation, having arrived at the basic forces of the UANL Tigres at a very young age, where he was fully trained as a professional soccer player.
Several voices within the Mexican national team have defended the inclusion of Quiñones in the project for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, as is the case of Kevin Álvarez, who also shares a dressing room with the striker at Club América.
