The Sam Smith’s career continues to rise, with a packed schedule that takes him on tour throughout Latin America, where he has four concerts scheduled in Mexico. The composer had not visited the country for five years, and his approach to Mexican fans, who anxiously await the winner of the Grammy, Golden Globes, Oscars and Brits, is increasingly notorious.
During the night of last Tuesday, Sam Smith gave a concert in Austin, Texas, and lived an unexpected experience. Two of her fans, Olga and Thania, presented the “Unholy” singer with a personalized Dr. Simi.
This gesture not only reflected Sam Smith’s love for his followers, but also revived a custom that Mexicans popularized between 2021 and 2022: the delivery of personalized stuffed animals to artists during their shows. This trend had lost strength due to the restrictions imposed in various venues, but Olga and Thania’s gesture fanned the flame.
The famous singer enthusiastically showed off his new stuffed animal, which featured the artist’s iconic outfit featuring metallic appliqués, latex and stylized materials designed by Harikrishnan Keezhathil Surendran Pillai.
On Instagram, Sam Smith shared a series of photos of the “Simi Smith” and thanked her Austin fans: “Olga and Thania made us a bit of Simi Smith, so we brought it on stage tonight. Thanks Austin, that was awesome.”
The social networks were filled with comments and jokes from his followers, who celebrated the event with phrases such as “Sam, now you are Mexican”, “He said, patriotic month and whoever shouted”, “Dr. Simi has arrived very away”, among others.
