Latino street vendor is mugged in front of his daughter with autism in South Los Angeles

A Latino street vendor was violently beaten and robbed by several masked men this Saturday afternoon in South Los Angelesan attack that occurred in front of his 8-year-old daughter, who suffers from autism.

The incident occurred at around 3:45 p.m. on September 2, when the merchant, José Carbajal, was near the intersection of Broadway and Manchester Avenue to sell T-shirts and other items, and was approached by four masked individualsaggression that was captured on video.

Carbajal said the suspects had a firearm.which they pressed against his body before being thrown to the ground.

The robbers brutally beat Carbajal and In addition to taking part of the merchandise, they also stole $2,200 in cash, his car registration, passport, and debit card.which moments later was used by thugs to buy gasoline.

carbajal He is originally from Colombia, and his wife traveled back to his country, so he is responsible for the care of his 8-year-old daughter.

The physical attack and assault committed against the street vendor is being investigated by officers of the Los Angeles Police Department.

What hurt the street vendor the most, is that the incident happened in front of his little daughter.

“My message to them is that God bless them. One day things won’t go so well, all these people here, we all work very hard to support the lives of our families, as I do with my daughter. What they did was something not very kind“Carbajal expressed to the KTLA network.

Currently, the Hispanic street vendor and his daughter are living in a hotel. Carbajal said he was raising money to pay for rent on an apartment, but after the assault he will have to start raising the dollars from scratch..

“I look at it as if I couldn’t let it affect my personal life. I need to keep moving forward, I have a daughter who depends on me and failure is not an option, ”she acknowledged.

Carbajal wants to leave this difficult experience behind and the day after the assault he was already offering his shirts againthanking the support offered by other street vendors on the block.

The peddler hopes that your story serves as a warning for other traders to be alert to everything that happens in your environment.

“My message goes out to other street vendors, to continue to be safe, smart and productive in your environment. It is a dangerous job, but we have to keep doing it,” said Carbajal.

People close to Carbajal created a GoFundMe page so that the community can collaborate with a donation and allow him to recover some of the losses he suffered in the violent assault.
