Borisa Simanic, one of the members of Serbia in the 2023 Basketball World Cup, had to undergo emergency surgery after receiving a strong elbow in the game against South Sudan.

The Serbian was defending on the rim when he received a blow to his side and showed clear signs of pain. He was removed from the encounter and taken to a hospital for surgical treatment.

Borisa Simanic, from the Serbian team 🇷🇸, underwent a second operation in which they had to remove a kidney.

During the operation, the player presented problems and the doctors had to remove a kidney due to the damage Simanic suffered at the time of the blow.

The 25-year-old Serb is admitted to the Makati Medical Center in Manila (Philippines).

The team doctor, Dragan Radovanovic, is the one who has reported that “due to changes in the vitality of renal tissue fIt was necessary to surgically remove the entire kidney.”

The player, logically, will not be able to continue in the championship, in which Serbia has qualified for the quarterfinals; a loss that adds to those already known from the tournament such as Nikola Jokic, Vasilije Micic, Nemanja Nedovic

Although at first it seemed that the kidney was working normally, the doctors detected a series of complications that forced this second intervention.

Serbia will face Lithuania in the quarterfinals without Simanic who was a player who worked off the bench for the Serbian team.
