Mexican soccer suffered a great disappointment in the Leagues Cup. Although many criticized the organization of the tournament, Major League Soccer teams managed to prevail over the big clubs of Liga MX. The Mexican participation left much to be desired and the renowned analyst Enrique Bermudez described the worrying panorama of Mexican soccer.

Season after season the endless comparisons between Liga MX and MLS are generated. Both tournaments are the strongest in Concacaf and They fight to be at the top of the region. The Leagues Cup was a great opportunity to measure both levels face to face and the result was disappointing for Aztec football.

“There is a stalemate, we have stayed! The MLS has had tremendous growth, here they have an economic, financing, investment structure and that has to be copied. The Leagues Cup certainly puts us in our place, that we are the giant of the Concacaf because we are no longer, at the level of selections, The United States has beaten us in the last games and also in clubs“Bermúdez said in an interview with W Deportes.

The great representatives of Mexican soccer did not measure up: the Club León, the Chivas de Guadalajara, the Águilas del América or the Red Devils of Toluca. The only one that had a regular performance was Rayados de Monterrey, the only Mexican team that reached the semifinals of the tournament.

In the midst of bad results, Enrique Bermúdez believes that Mexican soccer is only thinking about generating profits. The economic factor surpassed the sports one and the Leagues Cup exposed the seams of the interests of the great leaders of Aztec football.

“Liga MX is only thinking about moneyThe best moments that I remember in Mexican soccer were when we had competition in the Liga Libertadores de América and in the Copa América. I think there was real growth there and it was seen that we had the capacity, and it seems to me that we will return to compete in those two tournaments , while continuing to compete with MLS, it would be good,” he added.

The Mexican Football Federation under evaluation

On the other hand, the “Dog” Bermúdez considers that The first steps of the new board of the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) have been correct. The renowned analyst prefers to wait before evaluating the performance of the leaders of Aztec football. The goal is the 2026 World Cup and Bermúdez is satisfied with the first movements.

“I would give the benefit of the doubt to a new project because I really like what was started to make a real change; reduction of foreigners for the resurgence of national values; quality over quantity; work much better in basic forces; pay technical trainers much more; which is one of the big problems we have in Mexico, ”he concluded.
