Manchester City’s Norwegian striker Erling Haaland received this Thursday in Monaco the award for UEFA best player of the yearafter his first season in the English team, in which they won the Champions League, the Pemier League, the FA Cup and the European Super Cup.
At the age of 23, Haaland closed his first campaign in the team led by the Spanish Pep Guardiola with 12 goals in the “Champions”four more than his immediate rival, the Egyptian Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) and the record number of 36 in the English league.
The Norway international, who became the youngest player to sign 35 goals in the Champions Leaguereplaces French striker Karim Benzema in the list of winners of the award, which was also chosen by his teammate, Belgian Kevin de Bruyne and Argentine Lionel Messi, after passing through the French PSG and now at Inter Miami.
The winners of the UEFA Best of the Season awards are chosen by a jury of coaches and journalistsafter an initial pre-selection made by the UEFA technical study group, based on their performance.
Erling Haaland’s numbers in his first year with City
Undoubtedly, Erling Haaland is up for great things in Europe’s soccer elite. The Norwegian did not stay as a Borussia Dortmund fashion. In his first year with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, Haaland left impressive records.
Haaland did not need any period of adaptation to the Premier League. The Norwegian goalscorer scored 36 goals in 35 matches in the English tournament. Erling also stood out with 3 goals in the FA Cup and 1 goal in the EFL Cup not to mention their 12 goals in the UEFA Champions League. The former Dortmund player also contributed 9 assists for the Cityzen cause.
