Joe Montana ranks Dan Marino as the best quarterback ever, ahead of Tom Brady, and explains why

Jorge Hernandez

joe montanawinner of four Super Bowls with the san francisco 49ers and member of the Hall of Fame, claimed that the best quarterback in NFL history is Dan Marino and ignored Tom Bradywho is he top winner of titles in the league.

When asked who was the best quarterback in history, Montana did not hesitate to say that Dan Marino, an icon of the Miami Dolphinswho was never able to win a Super Bowl.

“Marino is one of the more anonymous heroes in the game. People don’t talk about him enough or realize the numbers he put up. He had the perfect upper body touch and strength to shoot the ball quickly with precision.“, he expressed.

Montana was considered the best ‘quarterback’ in the NFL for the four championship rings he won with San Francisco until Brady snatched that distinction with seven titles obtained in his 23-year career: he won six with the Patriots and one with the Buccaneers.

To back up his argument, the Most Valuable Player designated in Super Bowls XVI, XIX and XXIV and an eight-time Pro Bowl selection, asserted that Marino’s qualities would make him unstoppable in today’s American football.

“Put Marino, with that ability to quickly get rid of the ball, in today’s game, with this freedom and protection that quarterbacks have and with the size that receivers have today, who are really big, and my God!“said the former player, who played with the 49ers between 1979 and 1992.

Dan Marino played with the Miami Dolphins from 1983 to 1999. Although he is a Hall of Famer and considered a league legend, he never won an NFL championship.

The only Super Bowl he reached with Miami was the XIX, which he lost to the 49ers led by Joe Montana.

Marino led the NFL in passing yards five times and three times in most touchdowns.

His single-season record of 48 touchdowns, which he set in 1984, stood until Brady broke it with 50 in 2007, a record surpassed by Peyton Manning with 55 in 2013.
