A Riverside man was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and sexual assault against a 13-year-old girl in the town of Coronaas well as an attempted kidnapping in Riverside, authorities announced Tuesday.
The Corona Police Department reported the arrest of Roderick Eugene Arline Jr., 25.
Authorities said that on July 21, officers responded to reports regarding a kidnapping and sexual assault that had occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m.
Corona police said that A 13-year-old girl had allegedly been taken into the back of a black, older-model Mercedes Benz C carnear Tyler Street, in neighboring Riverside.
“The victim was subsequently transported to the Sixth Street and Rimpau Avenue area of Corona where she was sexually assaulted,” the Corona Police Department said in a news release.
While the investigations into the kidnapping and assault of the little girl were being carried out, the Corona authorities learned that the Riverside Police Department had investigated a similar attempted kidnapping committed on April 20, around 7:40 p.m., in the area of the intersection of Jackson Street and Miller Avenue.
In that incident, the suspect, matching Arline’s description, attempted to force a female into his black vehicle. The victim managed to escape, although she was injured. The suspect fled the scene in his car.
“Corona Police and Riverside Police Detectives collaborated in this investigation and determined that Arline Jr. was also responsible for the attempted kidnapping on April 20 in Riverside.
Arline was admitted to the Robert Presley Detention Center, where he remains in the custody of authorities on $2.5 million bail.
Based on how both incidents occurred, authorities believe that there could be more Arline victims with similar assaults who may not have come forward yet.
