The Caborca Cartel suffered a new blow, as one of its leaders, Rodrigo Omar Páez Quinteroalias “El R” lost an amparo processed a few days ago, which would give the green light to be extradited to the United States, where he is required to appear for crimes against health and criminal association, according to El Universal.

Thus, Mexico granted the extradition of the drug trafficker, who is the nephew of Rafael Caro Quintero. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) had already approved the measure since last June, but the drug trafficker, who is required by an Arizona District Court, requested an amparo.

Although a judge in Mexico City initially accepted the request, it has now been announced that he granted the final suspension, so the extradition process resumed.

Páez Quintero was arrested at dawn on April 30 of this year in an operation by the Navy and the Attorney General’s Office in the municipality of Zapopan, Jalisco, where months before he suffered an attack related to the dispute that the Caborca Cartel, founded by his uncle, maintains with the faction of the little boys of the Sinaloa cartel.

According to the SDP Noticias portal, investigations indicate that Rodrigo Omar Páez Quintero was in command of a group of men called “Sweeper 24/7″, the armed wing of the Caborca Cartel, a group founded by Rafael Caro Quintero.

Said criminal group disputes the control of drug trafficking routes with Los Chapitos, carrying out kidnappings, murders, forced disappearance against the population and against their rivals.

After the arrest of drug lord Rafael Caro Quintero, in July 2022, the Caborca Cartel was left in the hands of his nephews José Gil Caro Quintero, alias “El Pelo Chino”; Rodrigo Omar Páez Quintero, alias “El R”; Ramón Quintero Páez, alias “El Tiko”, and Juan Pablo Quintero Martínez, alias “El Pablito.
