Police in Westchester County, a county north of New York City, killed a grizzly bear Tuesday that had attacked a boy in his backyard.

Around 11 in the morning, a resident of the town of Bedford heard some shouting and he saw a bear attacking a boy of about seven who was playing in the yard of a nearby house.

Immediately, the child’s parents went out into the yard and, together with other neighbors, chased away the animal, which had caused several injuries to the minor, to the point that the child had to be hospitalized, although he is out of danger.

EMS workers from the Banksville Fire Department and Armonk Fire Department they treated the child and then transported him to a local hospitalthe police said.

The local police went to the area and found the bear in the vicinity of the place. When the animal saw the officers, instead of fleeing it approached them, for which they shot at it, causing its death.according to the local chain CBS7.

“Our concern was that it wouldn’t back off, so at one point it moved forward and when there are so many humans you would think an animal of that type would normally back off and it didn’t,” the North Castle Police Department chief said. said Peter Simonsen, according to WABC.

After it was euthanized, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation took the bear to the Westchester County Health Department for testing, according to authorities.

Police have advised residents not to keep pet food on their patios, not even birdseed, foods that can attract bears, which are relatively abundant in this wooded area just half an hour from the Big Apple.

In early August, a Pennsylvania man survived a surprise bear attack while in his home’s garage.. The incident was recorded on a security camera video shared on social media.

In images shared to Facebook by Lori and John Swartz of Danville, the bear is seen walking across the lawn, onto the home’s porch, and wandering into the garage area near a car, out of camera view.

Another clip shows the moment when Swartz enters the garage behind the car and his two cats suddenly run towards him. Moments later, he flies backwards as the bear appears to pounce on him as he flees the garage. He rushes to his feet and is seen clutching his forehead and running back into the house.

Swartz was left with large bite marks on his head and bruises on his body.he told NorthcentralPA.com.
