Given the results of a study, where it was verified that the line of huge buoys placed near Eagle Pass, Texas, on the river marked to separate Mexico from the United States, invaded the border space of the neighboring country to the souththe governor Greg Abbott allegedly gave the order to relocate the barrier.
Interconnected spherical buoys, which move when touched, have already been placed at the site over an area of about 1,000 feet.
Nevertheless, a study by the International Boundary and Water Commission determined that 79% of the barrier was on the Mexican side through which the river flows.
So, to avoid a major conflict, it was decided to relocate the buoys to the US side.
In this sense, Abbott continues alleging that his government has the authority to install the buoys, as determined by a treaty with Mexico.
“Out of an abundance of caution, Texas went back and moved the buoys to a location where it is clear they are on the US side, not the Mexican side.
If you look at the treaty between the United States and Mexico, there is specific reference to buoys as a device that can be allowed in these waters between the United States and Mexico.“, indicated the state president while making it clear that the buoys do not represent any impediment to the waters continuing to be navigable.
According to the Justice Department’s complaint filed last week against Texas for building the barrier, a group of surveyors determined that, since the beginning of the project, most of the buoys were mounted on the Mexican side.
“Approximately 208 feet of the buoy line (on the upstream portion of its alignment) is located within the United States; while approximately 787 feet of the line of buoys (in the current part below its alignment) were placed within Mexico”, indicates a document quoted by the New York Post.
It should be noted that, since last month, the buoys began to be installed under the argument of being a state border security effort known as Operation Lone Star.
The Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Military Department are working together on this project along the southern border between Texas and Mexico.
