Sean Tobin, a 20-year-old Mixed Martial Arts fighter, lost half of his lung after five years of electronic cigarette addictionalso known as a vaporizer, an alternative to the traditional cigarette, but one that has been determined to be just as harmful or worse.

The story was revealed this week in an interview that the athlete gave to the British newspaper Mirror. These statements leave a deep reflection on the use of this method that has become popular in the world and that many see as an alternative to nicotine.

I vaped all day

In the aforementioned interview, Sean Tobin claimed that he could spend the entire day vaping, from morning to night. “I started vaping when I was 15 years old and the vape never left my hand. It was very, very common. When I got in the van to go to work, I felt as if I had pulled my back. The tension was too strong”, he claimed.

Despite the time he spent vaping, It was not until July 20 of this year, when severe discomfort made him go see a doctor and what he thought was pneumoniaended up being the consequences of his addiction to the electronic cigarette.

Diagnosis as a consequence of electronic cigarette

At Concord Hospital in New Hampshire, They carried out a series of studies on the British fighter and everything led to the conclusion of the damage his lung had as a result of vaping with the electronic cigarette.

British mixed martial artist Sean Tobin underwent surgery after a collapsed lung was caused by excessive vaping.

They had to do a series of procedures, until finally they cut a small part of the lung and they end up joining it with staples. I was afraid to see him. “As soon as I saw the lung damage, I was very angry with myself. I got really sad and thought ‘I’ve done this to my own lung.’” he said in dismay.

It should be noted that the World Health Organization has warned about the risks of electronic cigarettes and they are as serious and even more serious than those of nicotine itself.
