Magnitude 3.9 earthquake strikes in the area of ​​Sunday's earthquake in Ventura County

A magnitude 3.9 earthquake struck early Tuesday morning in Ventura County in the area where a magnitude 5.1 earthquake occurred on Sunday.

In a report, The United States Geological Survey reported that the tremor occurred at 4:39 a.m., with an epicenter about five miles from the community of Ojai.at a depth of 6 miles.

Authorities did not report any injuries or damage from the quake.which could be a major aftershock of Sunday’s earthquake, which occurred while Southern California was on alert for the impact of Tropical Storm Hilary.

The magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck at 2:41 p.m. Sunday and was felt in Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange and Riverside counties.

emergency services were on alert for the arrival in southern California of Hilary, the first tropical storm after 84 yearswhich unloaded heavy rains and strong winds that caused flooding, landslides, and power outages from downed power lines.

As of Monday morning, 17 aftershocks from the quake, with magnitudes between 2.0 and 3.8, had been reported in the Ojai area, about 80 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

Ojai is a small scenic community on the edge of the Los Padres National Forestabout 12 miles north of Ventura.

Ventura County Sheriff’s Department conducted an aerial survey of the Casitas Lake Dam, Matilija Dam, and the City of Ojai, and found no earthquake damage.

Specialists said that it is the first magnitude 5 earthquake in this region since 1932, and they did not rule out more aftershocks in the coming days.
