The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Urgently convened an Extraordinary General Assembly for next Friday, August 25 to discuss the action of its President Luis Rubiales by kissing the player Jennifer Hermoso without consent after winning the final of the Women’s World Cup.
The meeting will be held at its headquarters in the Soccer City of Las Rozas, in Madrid (Spain).
“Based on the latest events that occurred during the award ceremony for the Women’s World Cup won by the Spanish National Team last Sunday in Sydney, we would like to inform you that the internal proceedings of the Federation regarding integrity issues are open, as well as the rest of the applicable protocols”, refers to the statement published by the RFEF on its website.
This assembly will begin at 12:00 PM on Friday (Spain time) and was called after the request of the territorial federations of Spanish football.
What were the first complaints against Luis Rubiales?
In addition to the thousands of reactions that were generated instantly by what happened at the award ceremony in Sydney, there were also demonstrations of support from senior Spanish government officials, including Pedro Sánchez, President of the Government of Spain.
This Tuesday, Sánchez received the world champions and took advantage of the moment to comment on the behavior of Luis Rubiales when he kissed the soccer player Jennifer Hermoso without consent.
“I think that what we saw was an unacceptable gesture, that Rubiales’ apologies are not enough, they are not even adequate, he has to continue taking steps to clarify what we saw,” the president of the Spanish government told the press.
Even the People’s Party (PP) described as “embarrassing” the action of the soccer leader of Spain. He also regretted that such behavior took the spotlight off the players.
One of the first complaints that became known was that of the president of the National School of Soccer Coaches of Spain, Miguel Galán. The complaint was published by The objective before the Higher Sports Council in that country.
The complaint requests that a file be opened against Luis Rubiales for breach of sports law 39/2022 for a sexist act due to the kiss on the mouth of the player Jennifer Hermoso.
While waiting for the Extraordinary General Assembly of the RFEF, negative reactions about Luis Rubiales will continue to come out, it remains to wait for the final decision on the sanctioning actions or on whether he will continue to command the Spanish Football Federation.
