The National Institute of Migration (INM) of Mexico clarified that Of the 16 deaths left by a crash of a passenger bus on a highway in the state of Oaxaca, in the south of the country, only one was of Venezuelan origin and the remaining 15 were Mexican.

“The INM regrets the death of 16 people (15 Mexicans and one Venezuelan) during a car accident registered in the state of Oaxaca early this Tuesday,” the agency under the Ministry of the Interior (Ministry of the Interior) said in a statement. .

According to the authorities, the mishap occurred on the Miahuatlán-Coixtlahuaca highwaybetween a torton type truck against a passenger bus in which 52 people were traveling, “10 of them from Venezuela.”

However, he clarified that foreigners traveling on the bus had an appointment from the CBP One program to complete their entry process into the United States on a regular basis.

In addition, it specified that, derived from the impact, 36 people were injuredof which 9 are Venezuelans, but six of them have already been discharged and three are still hospitalized.

He added that the bodies of the deceased were taken to the Forensic Medical Service of the state of Oaxaca to continue with the corresponding expert services.

“I regret the accident that occurred early Tuesday morning at kilometer 91+900 of the Cuacnopalan-Oaxaca highway, where 16 people died, eight men and eight womenas well as 32 people injured, most of them migrants of Venezuelan origin,” Toribio López, head of the Oaxaca Highway Police, wrote earlier on the X social network.

The Oaxaca official specified that The passengers were on a Blanesca line bus that left the city of Miahuatlán de Porfirio Díaz bound for Mexico City.

The INM said that it will be aware of the evolution and state of health of the injured and will contact the consular authorities of Venezuela to support the corresponding administrative issues for repatriate the body of the deceased person.

He Governor of Oaxaca, Salomón Jaraoffered to “collaborate as necessary” and “provide support to the injured people”, but did not offer more details of the incident.

“We send a hug and our condolences to the families of the deceased, to whom we will also provide all our support,” the state president, of the ruling National Regeneration Movement (Morena), said on social networks.

These events occur in the midst of a trend of bus accidents that transport migrants crowded on highways in Mexico, where just last July 28 five Hondurans died in a mishap in Tabasco, in the southeast of the country.

Governor of Puebla will investigate the accident

The governor of the Mexican state of Puebla, Sergio Salomón Céspedes, promised to investigate the unfortunate accident that left 16 dead. However, the state president made the statements when the nationality of the travelers was not yet known, which in principle was said to be mostly Venezuelans.

Salomón, from the pro-government National Regeneration Movement (Morena), indicated at that time that it is not normal for only foreigners to travel on a bus.

“We call on citizens to be vigilant, to help us report when they see strange movements or crowds of people in a house, because this happens in a municipality or somewhere, because they (migrants) are waiting to later transfer them and it is better to attend to cases in a timely manner and avoid accidents of this magnitude,” he told the media.

Just last week, Mexico’s National Migration Institute (INM) found 129 migrants from Egypt and eight from Mauritania abandoned on a bus in Veracruz, the country’s eastern state.
