The latest update to the Tesla App for iOS has created quite a stir among Tesla vehicle owners with iPhones as it now gives them allows you to control various functions of your cars directly from your phones. This new functionality is achieved through integration with Apple Shortcut Automations, which are activated by voice commands through Siri.

With version 4.24.0 of the Tesla app, users can access essential controls and climate settings for their vehicles from the Apple Shortcuts app.. The release note for this update reveals the inclusion of this feature and promises greater convenience for Tesla drivers.

The main benefit of this integration lies in the ability to use Siri to trigger previously configured shortcut automations. Although this feature may require users to memorize the specific names of the automations, it is a significant step toward being able to control their Tesla cars more intuitively and conveniently.

This integration not only Provides the convenience of controlling basic vehicle functions such as raising and lowering windows, adjusting media volume, or opening the front trunk (frunk)but also allows users to activate specific modes, such as “Dog Mode” designed to keep a pet comfortable in the car while the driver is away, or even “Bioweapons Defense Mode”, which provides greater safety in certain situations.

In addition to these featured features, the full list of voice commands available via shortcuts covers a wide range of capabilities. Tesla owners can, for example, set charging limits, start or stop charging the vehicle, adjust the seat heater, and control the temperature of the interior climate, among many other options. This demonstrates an effort on Tesla’s part to allow users more control over their driving experience and the functionality of their cars, all without needing to access the mobile app.

While some may find the process of using specific commands via Siri and Shortcuts to be a bit more clunky compared to a direct digital assistant integration, this update certainly marks a step in the right direction. Tesla owners with iPhone now have the ability to control their vehicle in more versatile and convenient ways, offering a glimpse into a future where the interaction between drivers and their cars becomes even more intuitive and technologically advanced.
