Scandals continue in Mexican politics, as cases of alleged ties to organized crime continue to emerge, all with a year to go before the country elects its new president and tempers are heating up.
One of these cases is that of the mayoress of Chilpancingo, Guerrero, who was seen meeting in a restaurant with a criminal leader, a fact for which the authorities opened an investigation against the official.
Is about Norma Otilia Hernandezwho held a meeting with Celso Ortega Jiménez, identified as the leader of the criminal group “Los Ardillos” that operates in the state of Guerrero, one of the entities most besieged by organized crime.
In this regard, the attorney general of the state of Guerrero, Sandra Luz Valdovinos Salmerón, stated in a meeting with the media that there is already an investigation file against the mayoress.
The official indicated that the investigation is carried out on the videos and that there are several inquiries of the common jurisdiction and, in the event that they are of federal order, jurisdiction will be declined to the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR). “These crimes could be organized crime and others of the federal order,” explained the prosecutor.
Why is the mayoress of Chilpancingo being investigated?
Norma Otilia Hernández is the current mayoress of Chilpancingo, she comes from the party from which the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, emanated, like the governor of Guerrero. Both have been accused by the opposition of having ties to organized crime.
About two weeks ago, photos and a video of the mayoress with the leader of “Los Ardillos” in a restaurant were released, and later an audio was leaked in which Hernández is heard talking to the criminal.
Given these facts, Ludwig Marcial Reynoso, Guerrero government secretary general, recommended that the mayoress leave her post while the investigation is underway, according to the site La Silla Rota.
For his part, Norma Otilia responded to those who demand that she be removed from office noting that it will be respectful of the comments made by other political actors, but recalled that similar situations occurred in past administrations and no one spoke out to demand the resignation of the mayors who were in office.
