It all started as a joke on the Disney+ series, hawkeye. However, in real life, Rogers: The Musical took on quite “serious” nuances, so much so that it is now a 30-minute show running for a limited time at Disney California Adventure’s Hyperion Theater.
This production, part of the Disney100 celebration, recounts in one act the heroic journey of Steve Rogers to become Captain America, and includes not only characters like Nick Fury and Peggy Carter, but some of the most celebrated members of the Avengers , like Iron Man, Black Widow and Hulk.
The story is inspired by the fictional sequence of the Broadway stage musical, part of the first episode of the Disney+ series, hawkeye. It features five new songs, plus “Save the City” and “Star Spangled Man,” previously heard on the Captain America: The First Avenger tape. These tracks are the work of Grammy Award-winning composer Christopher Lennertz and lyrics are by Jordan Peterson, Christopher Lennertz and Alex Karukas.
Visitors will be able to see and enjoy a classic story of heroes, with a brief but significant romance, and at the same time travel through time, when the hero in question loses consciousness during an attack in World War II, and wakes up decades later. , in a more contemporary world and with new characters.
Hunter Bell is the author of the book, and is also the protagonist and lyricist of “title of the show”, a production nominated for a Tony Award.
Fans of the Avengers will recognize some iconic moments and objects from the series in this musical, such as Steve’s notebook and the use of the Time Stone, which he uses to revisit his past.
One of the most impressive aspects of this production is the eclecticism of its music, which ranges from jazz, swing, modern funk and more traditional rhythms. This is the work of an orchestra of 60 musicians, which also allows the adaptation of original choreographies that incorporate dance styles from different eras.
Rogers: The Musical runs Tuesday through Saturday with several performances daily. Ends August 31. More reports at disneylandespanol.com.
