The issue of the inclusion of trans people in sports is, in addition to being controversial, widely discussed today and in football history Megan Rapinoe has not refused to escape giving her opinion on the matter.

As she prepares to play the Women’s World Cup to be held this summer in Australia and New Zealand, the American He was in favor of trans people being able to participate in sports the genre they chose.

“I consider them women (…) I see trans women as real women“This is how emphatically Rapinoe responded in an interview for Time magazine.

Rapinoe considers that the inclusion of trans athletes in no way gives a negative shadow to women’s sports, a criterion that goes against World Athletics, the body that coordinates athletics around the world.

For the 38-year-old soccer player, the view that a trans “occupies the position of a real woman” is deeply transphobic.

“She is still extremely transphobic. I see trans women as real women. What you’re automatically saying in the argument is that you don’t think these people are women. I don’t think like that,” she explained.

The issue will continue to be debated. Meanwhile, Megan Rapinoe prepares her goodbye to soccer.

After the Women’s World Cup, which will begin in the next few days, she will hang up her boots after having won three world cups and with the possibility of a fourth this summer.
