A group of armed and hooded men issued a death threat to the journalist Carlos Jimenezknown as C4, a specialist in violence and police issues in Mexico City, warned that they know all the movements of the reporter and his family for which they warned him “We are going to send you in little pieces”.
It was the journalist Carlos Jiménez himself who announced the death threats against him for which he published the video that came to his personal cell phone and assured that continue with his journalistic work.
They sent the threatening video to his personal cell phone
The C4, as Carlos Jiménez is known, said that the video arrived on his personal cell phone on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 4, but at that time he did not make it known until the next day.
“’WE ARE GOING TO HUNT YOU, LIKE A P.. ANIMAL’. Yesterday afternoon, this video arrived on my personal phone. An audio in the same tone, and a call, accompanied it. Here, we continue working for you…C4”, Carlos Jiménez wrote on his Twitter account.
At the beginning of the video, the man reading the message says that the journalist from “messed with the wrong lion”.
In the video they appear five armed and hooded men, two carry long weapons and the other three hold pistols. The material is seen to have been recorded in a mountainous area.
Although five hooded and armed men appear, only one is limited to reading the message he is holding in one of his hands.
The threat against Carlos Jiménez
“Pay close attention, pend&% C4: do you like to scratch… the lion? But this time you scratched… the wrong lion.” Start the message that the hooded man read.
“We know where you live, where you work, where you train, where to eat, where your family lives, what vehicles and motorcycles you use”is heard in the message of the armed group, which until now has not been identified to which criminal group it belongs.
But the threat did not stop there, since the message gave more details of what the armed group intends to do with the journalist who covers issues of violence and crime that take place in Mexico City and its metropolitan area.
In the video, two machetes and a white cardboard box with the legend “C4 Jiménez” are seen in the middle of the men, alluding to the threatened journalist.
“There is no place you can hide from us, we will hunt you down like a p&%$# animal, dog. We have your cardboard box where we are going to send you in small pieces. Your chin&%$ mother is going to charge you, pend#$&!”, video ends.
Carlos Jiménez affirms that he will continue reporting
During his television program, Carlos Jiménez endorsed his journalistic work and assured that despite the threats received, he will continue working to keep the public informed.
“My job as a reporter is always to keep you informed, and I will continue to do so, I will continue to display the faces and names of criminals, I will continue to display those who do society harm, those who believe they are unpunished, untouchable”assured the C4.
After publicizing the threats, users of social networks demand that the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador protection measures for the journalist, Some public officials even requested the intervention of the Secretary of the Interior, Luisa María Alcalde; the Mexico City prosecutor, Ernestina Godoy; and the Secretary of Citizen Security, Omar García Harfuch.
AMLO affirms that protection has already been given to the C4
Faced with these requests, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has already ruled on the matter and assured that the federal government has already granted protection measures to journalist Carlos Jiménez.
“He was already given protection, he asked for an armored car, protection and it was already given”AMLO specified during his morning press conference.
The journalistic union has expressed its support and solidarity to Carlos Jiménez, who thanked his colleagues for their support.
Among the journalists who expressed solidarity with him are Ciro Gomez Leyva, who on December 15, 2022 suffered an attack when he was going home after leaving his Grupo Imagen television newscast; also Azucena Urestiwho received a death threat from the CJNG in August 2021.
