They discover in Sinaloa “purple drank”, an enervating derivative of opium, it was in a teddy bear

During an operation at a parcel company on the lands of the Sinaloa cartel, elements of the National Guard (GN) with the support of canine pairs they found 10 jars with “purple drank”an enervating derivative of opium, within a Teddy bearthe authorities reported.

The events were recorded in a courier and parcel company located in culiacancapital of the state of Sinaloa, where a anti-drug operation in compliance with the National Public Security Strategy.

During the operation to detect drugs and weapons, one of the canine pairs took special interest in a package that he kept sniffing.

“Purple drank” found inside a teddy bear

Given the interest shown by the canine pairing, the officers separated the package that was wrapped in a cardboard box, which was going to be sent to the city of TijuanaBaja California, border with the United States.

When the officers opened the package they found a teddy bear that had several vials with a purple substance hidden insidewho was identified by the police as “Iean” or “purple drank”, that it is a drug made from codeine, an alkaloid that is present in opium.

The images of the teddy bear and the seized drug were shared on the National Guard’s social networks.

“In Culiacán, #Sinaloa, the #NationalGuard, with the support of canine pairs, secured a stuffed animal that hid vials with apparent codeine, a substance derived from opium that was intended to be sent through a courier company to Tijuana, #BC ”the tweet specifies.

“The apparent narcotic, along with the figure, were seized and made available to the Federal Public Ministry Agency in the entity, where the type of substance will be determined with precision to continue the corresponding investigations.”The National Guard highlighted in a statement.

In total there were 10 jars found inside the teddy bear, reported the National Guard.

The main ingredient of “purple drink” is the codeinewhich is present andn a cough syrupwhich is mixed with fizzy drink and grape-flavored purple candies, according to the US Department of Justice National Clearinghouse for Drug Informationwhich highlights that the drug has been on the market for more than a decade, mainly among young people in border cities.

The seizure of “purple drank” has concerned state and federal authorities about the risks of a possible increase in the production of said drug among young people in Mexico.

The Mexican authorities do not rule out that the Sinaloa cartel is behind the frustrated shipment, since the discovery was made in their territory.
