Gerson Fuentes, the 28-year-old Guatemalan accused of impregnating a 10-year-old girl who had to travel from Ohio to Indiana for an abortion he was sentenced to life in prison, charged with two felony counts of rape.

It is a case that came to be in the spotlight across the country after the annulment of Roe v. Wade.

Fuentes, a Guatemalan national, confessed to having raped the girl in an interview with the policeaccording to documents filed in Franklin County Municipal Court.

He was charged with the rape of a minor and was supposed to stand trial in January, but the case was delayed.

Fuentes was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after a minimum of 25 years. and you will need to register as a Level 3 sex offender.

Prosecutors said the victim’s mother did not object to the guilty plea and agreed with the sentencing recommendation.

Fuentes was arrested July 12 after speaking to police and confessing to raping the girl at least twice, Detective Jeffrey Huhn testified during an arraignment last week.
The girl had identified Fuentes as her attacker six days before her arrest, but after testing positive for a pregnancy, she sought an abortion, prosecutors confirmed in court Wednesday.

Fuentes was the boyfriend of the girl’s mother and the girl was less than 10 years old at the time of the rape, prosecutors said.

The minor had to travel to a neighboring state to terminate the pregnancy after her rape, due to Ohio’s “fetal heartbeat” law, which prohibits abortion, following the US Supreme Court ruling in June 2022 against Roe v. Wade.
