The teams searching for a submarine that disappeared while taking five people to the wreck of the Titanic They continued to hear noises Wednesday and were “searching” the area, the US Coast Guard said, with no results.

Overnight, the agency said a Canadian search plane detected underwater noises in the search area on Tuesday and teams were focused on finding the source of the sounds. Coast Guard Capt. Jamie Frederick said a plane also heard the noises Wednesday morning.

“Regarding the noises, specifically, we don’t know what they are, to be frank,” Frederick said at a briefing on Wednesday. “… We are searching the area where the noises were detected“.

He said the team has two ROVs, Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicles “Actively Searching” to Find Missing Tourist Submersible Over a Surface Area Twice the Size of the State of Connecticut and 2.5 miles deep.

The sounds prompted redirected searches by remotely-operated vehicles, the US Coast Guard said early Wednesday, noting that the effort so far “had had negative results.”

The five people aboard the ship, who went missing during a mission to explore the wreckage of the Titanic, had less than 24 hours of oxygen supply left, making the attempt to find the submarine is a race against time.
