Republican presidential candidate and governor of Florida, Ron DeSantisrecently visited northern California and filmed a campaign ad during a layover in San Francisco who was very critical of the city.

DeSantis tweeted the video Tuesday afternoon.which shows him standing at the corner of Geary and Hyde streets, in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco.

“We are here in the once great city of San Francisco. We came here and we saw people defecating in the street. We saw people using heroin, we saw people smoking crack.” DeSantis said in the announcement. “This city is no longer vibrant. It really collapsed due to leftist politics. And these policies have caused people to flee this area.”

DeSantis also attacked the problems in San Francisco that have directly led many residents to leave the city and move to Florida.

“Leadership matters. Cities like San Francisco that have embraced left-wing policies have destroyed the quality of life for their citizens and caused an exodus of productive people to greener pastures. We need to restore sanity to this entire country.”

On campaign against Newsom and California

DeSantis has previously focused on California and San Francisco during his campaign.

Last week, he escalated his feud with California Gov. Gavin Newsom, challenging the West Coast Democrat to “stop beating around the bush” and launching a primary challenge against President Joe Biden.

DeSantis and Newsom have battled for a year, and the California governor ran ads in Florida last year criticizing the Republican for policies he said targeted LGBTQ rights, voting and abortion rights, among others.

DeSantis made fundraising stops Monday in Sacramento and the Bay Area. On Tuesday, the governor was scheduled to attend fundraising events in San Diego, Orange County and Los Angeles, according to The Associated Press.
