The border city of Tijuana is one of the areas with the greatest presence of organized crime, being a key point for drug trafficking to the United States.
That is why local authorities constantly face risks that endanger their own lives, including the mayor. Montserrat Caballero Ramirez.
Recently, the official announced that, due to the death threats and apparent attacks she has received, she will move to the facilities of a military barracks together with her son, from where she will continue to govern, although she hopes that this measure will only be temporary.
However, that is not the only security measure that the mayoress has adopted, since at each of her public events she was also seen escorted by a large convoy of agents.
According to the local weekly Zeta, Caballero Ramírez was guarded by up to 10 private trucks and the National Guardwhich began to generate discontent among the population due to the large number of units that practically paralyzed the streets when the official attended an event.
Faced with this situation, the mayoress pointed out that she will reduce her security to avoid inconvenience to her neighbors and citizens. “We are going to reduce security because it is uncomfortable, where I live it is uncomfortable for the neighbors, so much security; on the street it is uncomfortable for passers-by so many vans, ”she declared.
Even during his last public event with the Tijuana Political Group, His outpost was only made up of 4 security vans and 2 from the National Guard.
Caballero Ramírez also commented that the move to the facilities of the 28th Infantry Battalion is being very fast, since he will only take the basics, his son and pets, starting next week when he is already in the barracks, however , still does not know the day because the three-bedroom house that was assigned to him, which is located in the area of lieutenants, requires adjustments.
“The moving process is being very fast because I am going to take few things with me; The house where I am going to live is very small, so the move will be easy and it will be from next week, but I still don’t know what day because the house had no electricity or internet; I hope next week and be there, ”she said.
