Canadian planes searching for signs of the submersible detected “underwater noise” in the search area, the US Coast Guard said early Wednesday.
The underwater noises, detected by Canadian P-3 aircraft, prompted searches by remotely-operated vehicles, the Coast Guard said shortly before 12:30 am ET.
“Those ROV searches have returned negative results but continue”, the message said. “In addition, data from the P-3 aircraft has been shared with our US Navy experts for further analysis to be considered in future search plans.”
For now, the Coast Guard assured that the information will be used to organize future search plans.
The message comes shortly after media such as Rolling Stone or CNN assured that the authorities they had detected knocking sounds at 30-minute intervals.
The US Coast Guard began an extensive search operation Monday with the help of Canada to locate the aircraft. The company OceanGate Expeditions, which operates the submersible, reported to the authorities on Sunday the disappearance of the device with five people on board: the pilot and four passengers.
According to international media, the five members of the crew are the Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood, his son Suleman, the British explorer Hamish Harding, the French explorer Paul-Henry Nargeolet and the CEO of OceanGate, Stockton Rush.
In his web page, the company offers eight-day, seven-night voyages to visit the wreckage of the Titanic, priced at approximately $250,000.
