The internal name of the social network is “Project 92”, and its public name could be “Threads” (threads, in English)according to internal documents seen by The Verge.

The new standalone app will be based on Instagram and, according to photos posted by the outlet, will look very similar to Instagram’s comment section, albeit with the option to republish other users’ posts, akin to retweeting.

The app will integrate with ActivityPub, the open source decentralized social media protocol, which will allow users of the new app to bring their accounts and followers to other apps, such as Mastodon.

Cox said some celebrities have already pledged to use the app, and he named DJ Slime. In addition, the executive said that he was in talks with Oprah Winfrey and the Dalai Lama.
