White House Covid-19 Response Coordinator Ashish Jha Steps Down After the United States has lifted the health emergency due to the pandemic, the country’s president, Joe Biden, confirmed this Thursday.

“I extend my deepest thanks to Ashish and his family. We are a stronger and healthier nation thanks to your contributions to public service,” the president said in a statement.

Biden did not announce any replacement for Jhaso that the charge could be eliminated taking advantage of the fact that The United States lifted the health emergency decreed in 2020 on May 11 by the then president, Donald Trump (2017-2021).

Jha’s march adds to the departure last month of the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Rochelle Walensky, and that of the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Anthony Fauci, in December, both visible faces of the fight against the pandemic.

In the statement, Biden defended that his Administration has managed to defeat covid-19 so that “the virus no longer controls” the lives of citizens.

Regarding Jha, the president said he is one of the United States’ leading public health experts and praised his effectiveness in “saving and improving the lives of millions of Americans.”

Ashish Jha took over as head of the pandemic response coordination department in March 2022 replacing Jeff Zients, current White House Chief of Staff.
