The police reported that this Wednesday found human remains on a remote stretch of highway in Fillmore County, Minnesota, which They belong to a woman who has been missing since March.
“This morning, the Southern Minnesota Office of the Regional Medical Examiner performed an autopsy. Police have confirmed that the remains are those of Madeline Kingsbury.Winona Police Chief Tom Williams said during an evening press conference.
Human remains found in Minnesota have been identified as those of a Minnesota mother of two who hadn’t been seen since Marchpolice said Thursday.
“Unfortunately, while this discovery is not what we expected, we are grateful to be able to bring Maddie home to her family,” Williams added.
Kingsbury’s body was found in an area that had already been previously searched. The chief pointed out that the body was hidden in a way that was not visible.
Digital evidence led investigators back to the area of Highway 43, Williams said.
“To say the least, the last 69 days have been frustrating, filled with anguish and pain for the family, law enforcement and the community. But during this time, the family never gave up. Law enforcement never gave up. The community never gave up,” he said.
Michelle Frascone, special agent in charge of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, said that investigators received hundreds of leads, which ultimately led them to Kingsbury’s body.
“We also want to acknowledge… the forensic scientists and analysts who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes through mountains of evidence to generate leads. We are grateful for the more than 450 tips that have been sent to us. The police evaluated each one of them and followed up on as many leads as possible,” she noted.
The woman’s father, David Kingsbury, said the family was “relieved that Madeline has been found after months of intensive searching and grateful for the extraordinary efforts of law enforcement, other first responders and volunteers.”
“We are confident that the right person has been arrested, will be properly charged and convicted of their crimes. Things are moving in the right direction there and we hope to get justice for Madeline. For now, we will grieve as a family and properly and respectfully lay her to rest,” she added in a statement, according to Minneapolis-based NBC affiliate KARE.
Kingsbury, 26, She was last seen on March 31 when she dropped off her children, then ages 5 and 2, at daycare at 8 a.m., Williams said at the time.
On Wednesday, Winona police said that authorities arrested Adam Fravel in connection with Kingsbury disappearanceHowever, they refused to give more details because the investigation is still open.
An official with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said Fravel is Kingsbury’s ex-boyfriend.
Fravel, who is the father of the two children, has denied any involvement in Kingsbury’s disappearance.
Fravel sought custody of the two children in court, but a judge ruled that the children should stay with Kingsbury’s parents while a family court case unfolded.
