According to Saudi Arabia, representatives of the Sudanese army and paramilitaries are still in Jeddah, on the shores of the Red Sea, where negotiations are officially suspended. The fighting, now entering its eighth week, continues to rage in Sudan.

“Saudi Arabia and the United States want discussions between the two delegations to continue [sudanesas] to facilitate humanitarian aid,” the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained in a statement. The two mediators demanded “a new ceasefire that is applied effectively”, since the two previous truces that they negotiated ended in borage water.

On Wednesday, the army withdrew from discussions that were to lead to the establishment of safe corridors for civilians and for the delivery of humanitarian aid. The next day, the United States and Saudi Arabia announced that the talks had been suspended.

US Secretary of State A.Antony Blinken, will visit Saudi Arabia from June 6 to 8. In seven weeks, the war between the army, led by General Abdel Fattah al Burhan, and the paramilitaries of the Rapid Support Forces (FAR) of General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, has caused more than 1,800 deaths and more than one and a half million of displaced persons and refugees.
