Irene Aldana will face champion Amanda Nunes for the bantamweight title at UFC 289, an event to be held in Canada on June 10. The Mexican, who will seek to become the company’s fourth Aztec champion, can surprise the Brazilian in the fight, This was stated by his jiu-jitsu coach, Diego Lopes.

In an interview on MMA Fighting’s Trocação Franca podcast, Lopes indicated that Aldana’s boxing level can put the champion in troublealthough he acknowledges that Nunes is a difficult opponent for anyone.

“I think we can surprise Amanda like this. Going in there and showing something that Amanda hasn’t faced yet, which is the level of boxing that Irene has, to surprise her and bring the second (UFC) belt to the team and the fourth to Mexico,” he said.

“Amanda is a tough fight for anyone in the division. We know that It’s the best in the division, but I think our team is used to fighting against that, like Alexa (Grasso) did with Valentina. Everyone saw Valentina as unbeatable, and we went there and did our job to win the fight,” he expressed.

The power in the hands of Irene Aldana Amanda Nunes takes this very seriously and knows that she must be careful. For this reason, the Brazilian champion does not believe that the fight will reach five rounds.

“I feel like it’s more technical, it’s more dangerous, it has knockout power, all those things. I feel like he has very good counter punches, so I have to be careful with those moments.. In addition, in takedowns he has good transitions when he approaches the ground. (…) We both have knockout power, and I don’t see this fight going very far,” Nunes told ESPN.

Irene Aldana, 35, will seek to add the fourth UFC belt for Mexico. The Mexican has a record of 14 wins and 6 losses in her professional career. For her part, Amanda Nunes, also the company’s featherweight champion, wants to continue expanding her legacy in MMA. The Brazilian has a record of 22 wins and 5 losses.
