Rafael Nadal, who underwent surgery on Friday afternoon, will need “an estimated time of five months tofor a normal recovery”, according to the medical report issued this Saturday.
Nadal underwent arthroscopic surgery for his left psoas tendon injury that has kept him out of the competition. The intervention was carried out at the Teknon Clinic in Barcelona by doctors Marc Philippon, Jaume Vilaró and Angel Ruiz-Cotorro.
“The surgery has been positive, it consisted of cleaning the fibrotic and degenerated areas of the tendon both proximal and distal, as well as the suture of the same to reinforce it adequately. In a second period, an old lesion of the labrum of the left hip was also regularized, which will surely help the better evolution of the tendon ”, indicates the report.
“Rafa will start his progressive functional rehabilitation in a few hours and the normal recovery process is estimated at 5 monthsalways taking into account respecting the biological times of said structure”, conclude the doctors.
The Spanish player and top Grand Slam winner made the announcement on social networks and specified the treatments he underwent to be ready in 2024, in what could be his retirement year.
“Hello everyone. As you know last night I had surgery. Everything went well and the arthroscopy It was in the left psoas tendon that has kept me out of the competition since January”, wrote the Spanish champion.
Following in the footsteps of the medical report issued, Rafa added that “an old injury to the labrum of my left hip was also regularized, which will surely help the tendon to evolve better.”
Rafa announced that he will start “progressive functional rehabilitation immediately and the normal recovery process, they tell me it takes 5 months, if all goes well.”
“Once again thank you for all the support you have shown me and that you show me every day. Today is also my birthday. Not in the desired or dreamed place, although THANK YOU anyway”, concluded Rafael Nadal.
