In addition, the Environmental and Land Management Office of Mexico City estimates that some 500,000 companion animals are abandoned each year in the country.

The space, inaugurated by Sandra Cuevas, head of the Cuauhtémoc mayor’s office, one of the most important in Mexico City, it went from being a garbage dump to becoming this rehabilitated space for animal care.

According to the policy, the hotel will be supervised by activists and defenders of animals to ensure that the needs of the tenants of the place are met, in which about 10 people currently work, serving the first three guests.

“What we seek is to make this world a better place than we found it,” said the politician.

The place will also have the support of the neighboring municipalities Miguel Hidalgo and Cuajimalpa, which will offer the free service of crematoriums and veterinary hospitals.

“The idea is that there is no more mistreatment of animals and that those who live on the streets, who are abandoned, have a safe and comfortable place, where they are also given the option of being adopted by a family,” Cuevas concluded.
