President Joe Biden joined his voice to that of many personalities in the United States to celebrate the life and career of the rock star with a message Tina Turnerpassed away this Wednesday at the age of 83, and offered his condolences to his family.

In Biden’s statement released by the White House, the president said: “Before she was the Queen of Rock and Roll, Tina Turner was the daughter of a farmer in Tennessee. As a child, she sang in the church choir before becoming one of the most successful recording artists of all time.

And he highlighted: “With 12 Grammy Awards, she was the only woman to win in the pop, rock and R&B categories, a sign of her versatility, creativity and broad appeal. Millions flocked to her concerts. Her high-octane dance performances were legendary. And her iconic hits, including “Proud Mary,” “The Best,” “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” continue to be treasured and sung loud by generations of fans.”

“We send our love to her husband, Erwin, to the rest of the Turner family and to fans around the world who are mourning the woman who was ‘simply the best’ today,” the message concluded.

The ex-president Barack Obama paid tribute to the admired artist: “Tina Turner was raw. She was powerful. She was unstoppable. And she was herself unapologetically, speaking and singing the truth of her through joy and pain; triumph and tragedy. Today we join fans around the world in honoring the Queen of Rock and Roll, and a star whose light will never fade.”

Tina Turner had retired from the world of music in 2009, at the age of 70, with a prolific career translated into more than 200 million records sold, 22 albums, of which 12 are studio recordings, 3 live and 7 compilations. .

Since then, the interpreter has focused on her personal life, marrying in Switzerland – where she ended up being nationalized – in 2013, at the age of 73, with the German music producer Erwin Bach, 57, after 27 years of relationship.

Tina Turner suffered health problems in the last decade, such as colon cancer in 2016, and underwent a kidney transplant just a year later. She passed away this Wednesday at the age of 83 at her home in Kusnacht, Switzerland.
