Water sports in Mexico are not experiencing their best momentfirst it was the Synchronized Swimming Team that had to sell swimsuits to cover their expenses and now it is the divers who show concern about the lack of support.
In an exclusive interview with Record, Mexican divers Alejandra Orozco and Gabriela Agúndez expressed their concern and admitted not knowing how they will pay for their expenses facing the next World Cup and if they manage to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The media are the way to express the problem
“We are raising our voices, we have not received scholarships for months, our coach has not received his salary, now we are raising our voices to ask for help to reach the Paris 2024 event”Agundez said.
“I am from La Paz, Baja California Sur, I live in Guadalajara, where I eat, pay rent, go to the supermarket and pay for all services, it is not easy to be training for our competitions and thinking about how we are going to do to have the resources“, he stressed.
Water sports in limbo
“We are in a limbo on the subject of support, it is something that leaves us with a bittersweet taste“Alejandra Orozco reproached. “We know that we have a lot to give, a lot of effort and many goals to reach, but the road looks cloudy, complicated and we are trying to make it a little more enjoyable.“, he continued.
Since last February, the highest sports body in Mexico has decided to withdraw support from water sports athletes due to the conflict between the Mexican Swimming Federation and international entities.
