Led by Olympic medalist Stanislav Horuna, the Ukraine Karate Team won the gold medal in the team kumite event at the Senior European Karate Championshipwhich is taking place in Guadalajara, Spain.
It should be noted that the Ukrainian team was losing in the final against their rivals from France with a score of 2-0, however they knew how to pull out the claw and ended up winning with a score of 3-2being Stanislav Horuna who gave the decisive point to obtain such an important victory.
In addition to Stanislav Horuna, the Ukrainian Karate Team, led by Mykola Sirakovsky, also included Valeriy Chobotar, Rizvan Talibov, Andrii Zaplitnyi, Andriy Toroshanko, Valeriy Sonnykh and Kostyantyn Tsymbal.
Horuna thanked her through her Instagram account, where in addition to celebrating her medal, she celebrated having reached 100,000 followers. “Victory is important only when there is someone to share it with. We have two great events: 1. Victory in the European Championship 2023! 2. 100 thousand followers on the profile! We are waiting for the third event – the victory of Ukraine, and then we will receive unconditional happiness”, wrote.
Nevertheless, Ukrainians Anzhelika Terliuga and Andriy Zaplitnyi won gold medals in their individual competitions and Anita Serogina took silver.. In this way, the potential of Ukrainian karate at a European and world level is demonstrated.
Stanislav Horuna has been one of the most outstanding athletes in Ukraine and has fought in the ranks of his country’s army against the Russian invasion. The Olympic medalist has joined names like Vasyl Lomachenko, Oleksandr Usyk, among others.
