After the defeat of the Spanish National Team, Luis de la Fuente, the team’s coach, He was “satisfied” with the approach his team had during the game that ended 2-0 against Scotland in Glasgow in the second qualifying match for Euro 2024.

“The match went where we had planned it, a complex and difficult match, but we have developed what we had prepared”De la Fuente said at the press conference after the game. In addition, he also considered that the two goals scored by Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay are “two football accidents that penalize you”.

“The players have followed the plan and we have had occasions that could have put us in the game. I am satisfied because I have recognized things that we had worked on, (but) I am not happy with the result “he insisted.

Approach that Spain used and that did not work

The approach used by de la Fuente, facing the duel against Scotland, consisted of: “play with the width of the wingers, crosses into the area, look for shots and actions of running into space ”, but that “everything would have been” different if the Spanish forwards had managed to score a goal.

De la Fuente, who led the senior team for the second game after its debut with a victory against Norway (3-0), acknowledged that “there are things to correct”, but he was happy with the defensive performance of the selection when considering that Scotland “has made few occasions”.
