Ukrainian boxer Maksym Galinichev dies while fighting in the war against Russia

Ukrainian boxer Maksym Galinichev died while fighting on the Lugansk front in the war with Russia last March 10. The 22-year-old joined the military in May 2022 and was serving with the Sycheslav Airborne Brigade of that country.

Through a publication on his social networks, the pilot and also a Ukrainian skeleton athlete Vladyslav Heraskevych released the news of the death of the young boxer.

“On March 10, 2018 Youth Olympic Games silver medalist Maksym Galinichev He gave his life for an independent Ukraine. In the spring of 2022, Maksym refused to participate in the European Boxing Championships and volunteered for the airborne stormtroopers. Glory to the hero, ”he wrote.

After winning the silver medal at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games, held in Buenos Aires (Argentina), Galinichev He was projected as one of the great promises of Ukrainian boxing. However, the boxer refused to participate in the men’s European Championship to help his country in the war.

In addition to the silver medal, Galinichev also won gold at the European Boxing Confederation (EUBC) Junior European Championships and competed internationally in senior events.

It should be noted that due to the presence of Russian and Belarusian boxers, the Boxing Federation of Ukraine (FBU) refused to send its boxers to the Women’s World Championship of the International Boxing Association (IBA), which is taking place in New Dheli, India.
