Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador ruled out banning the social network TikTok despite concerns in the United States for the alleged espionage of China and the risks to national security.

“We don’t forbid here, not here, complete freedom“, expressed the Mexican president questioned about the issue in his daily press conference.

López Obrador’s statements occur despite the fact that the controversy grew last week in the United States due to the appearance in Congress of the general director of TikTok, Shou Zi Chew, who denied that the network represents a danger.

But, at the same time, the Secretary of State of the United States, Antony Blinken, warned in another appearance that the Chinese company is a “threat” that must be “stopped in one way or another.”

In this context, The Mexican president said he did not share the concerns of the White House, that it gave US federal agencies 30 days to remove the social network from all government electronic devices.

“We do not have any concern of this type and the free expression of ideas is guaranteed, and we do not prohibit it. Forbidden to forbid”, commented the president of Mexico.

In the United States, critics have accused TikTok developer ByteDance of having ties to the Chinese Communist Party, while the company denies such allegations, saying it does not censor content or give the Chinese government access to its data.
