A Hispanic driver of the ride-sharing service Uber was shot dead by his own passengers early this Friday outside a 7-Eleven store in the city of Lynwood.
According to the authorities, Hispanic Aaron Orozco, 38, a four-year Navy veteran, was shot at approximately 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of Imperial Highway and Fernwood Avenue.
Aarón’s wife, Sandra Medina, said Orozco, a father of two, was a person who drove for the shared ride company for about 4 years, a job he did at night and in the early morning.
The suspects were described as two adult men.
“I just hope they find them because they created this chaos in my life and my family’s. And you know, now I don’t have my husband with me, he has changed my life a lot, I really hope they get caught, ”Medina told ABC.
The incident occurred during the trip, when Orozco parked in the 7-Eleven parking lot. Apparently, a physical altercation occurred between the Hispanic and the two passengers, and one of them used a firearm to shoot the Uber driver..
The Hispanic man was injured by a gunshot wound to the upper part of the body and died at the scene of the shooting.
The wife of the Hispanic driver mentioned that Orozco had some incidents in which he felt insecurebut that he had never suffered before in which he felt that his life was in danger.
The two suspects escaped from the scene of the shooting in Orozco’s car, a 2014 Honda Accord.a vehicle that was later found abandoned a short distance from the place where the crime occurred.
Orozco’s two passengers, allegedly responsible for the shooting, remain at large.
For four years, Aaron Orozco served in the United States Navy. He was the father of a 9-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl..
The Orozco and Medina couple had had their residence for about 10 years in Lynwood, the city where the Hispanic completed his high school studies.
The company Uber issued a statement regarding the Orozco incident, indicating that They maintained communication with the family of the Hispanic driver to offer their condolencesas well as to let them know that they are eligible for benefits for surviving family members.
“Our hearts go out to the family of Mr. Orozco Figueroa as they grapple with this tragedy, and we reach out to offer our condolences. We blocked the driver’s account and are working with the police on the investigation,” Uber reported.
