A high Brazilian court ordered this Friday the retention of Robinho’s passport, while it analyzes if the former player can serve in the country the sentence that was imposed on him in Italy for rape, official sources reported.

The Justice of the European country sentenced Robinho to nine years in prison for participating in the collective rape of a young Albanian woman in Milan in 2013.

The decision was made by the magistrate of the Superior Court of Justice Francisco Falcão, who took into account the seriousness of the crime, the repercussion international nature of the case and the economic condition of the player, which could facilitate an eventual escape from Brazil.

According to the statement released by the entity, the judge considered the “indications” that the former soccer player “tried to evade Italian criminal law.” and, likewise, “could leave Brazil to avoid serving the sentence.”

“In this sense, while this request for approval is being processed, it is convenient to establish precautionary measures other than imprisonment. to guarantee a possible future decision complying with the request for the execution of the sentence in national territory,” said the magistrate.

According to the decision, the player’s passport must be delivered directly to the STJ.

Last October, Italy requested the extradition of the former Real Madrid and Milan striker after convicting him of the rape, but according to the Brazilian Constitution, the extradition of nationals is prohibited.

For this reason, Italy requested that the sentence be served in his country of origin.

The events occurred in 2013 when, according to investigations, Robinho allegedly made the woman, then 23 years old, drink. until leaving her unconscious to later force her along with a group of friends to have sex in the wardrobe of a nightclub without her being able to oppose.

At that time the footballer had a contract with Milan, a team in which he was for four seasons (2010-2014).
