After their loss during the week in the Concacaf Champions League against Costa Rica’s Liga Deportiva Alajuelense, Los Angeles Football Club suffered a setback again this Saturday and could not get past a goalless draw against their Seattle Sounders counterpart. The defending champions lost their first two championship points today after having added three points in the first two days of Major League Soccer (MLS).
The first half became a bit rough and had at least five yellow cards. LAFC was dominated in possession of the ball and created chances. With Carlos Vela as the starter, the visitors went on the attack and the Mexican put his left foot to the test, but was unable to overcome the Swiss Stefan Frei.
The Seattle team came close to scoring thanks to the Peruvian Raúl Ruidíaz. However, John McCarthy made two good saves. Subsequently, at minute 23, the Slovakian Albert Rusnak shot from the right outside the area and smashed it into the ball on the crossbar.
In the second half, LAFC searched for the rival goal more on at least six occasions, but again they were dominated in possession. The match ended up being disputed, but both squads could not prevail on the scoreboard. LThe Angelenos got their first tie of the season and are in second place in the overall standings with seven points out of nine played, second only to St. Louis City.
Los Angeles Football Club currently has one game less due to the suspension of the championship debut match against LA Galaxy on February 26, which was postponed due to extreme weather. The institution closes a not very productive week due to the 2-1 defeat against Alajuelense. However, this fall did not affect their aspirations in the Concacaf LC thanks to the 0-3 win in the first leg. Steve Cherundolo’s men are now in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
